the name of the rose

I’m not one for political correctness – I think it’s gone overboard – but everyone needs to be sensitive to other people because words can be used in inflicting hurt.  I don’t want to be that guy but one needs to be careful – not for legal reasons but genuine compassion.

I’ve always hated the 3rd world because it implies some sort of premiership – the concept is not my own but I agree with it.  I’ve always preferred developing country – it sounds more promising. It might be semantics to some but it implies some countries are better than others.  It’s not an issue of equality but of difference.  With the collapse of the USSR, the 2nd world is more in doubt – even if this was developed separately.

I refer to us as persons with disabilities and not people.  Although we belong to the same community, being lumped together as one does not consider the diversity that exists.  Some of us have motor, sensory, or cogntive challenges and being considered as one does not account for our individual differences.
